Latin American and Caribbean Tobacco or Health Conference
The Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region has achieved great progress in implementing effective tobacco control policies over the last 10 years, mostly due to the international momentum created by the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Notable examples are smokefree policies, health warning labels, and tobacco products advertising, sponsorship and promotion. These successes have been aided by good policy relevant research in the region, including economic studies, studies of the burden of tobacco, smokefree policy implementation evaluation, warning label testing, compliance with various policies, among others. The changes have been significant and it is again time to provide a forum for exchange of information and coming together with a fresh and forward approach to continuing the tobacco control efforts in the region.
Since 2007, the InterAmerican Heart Foundation has been partnering with governmental and non-governmental organization to hold the Latin American and Caribbean Tobacco or Health Conference. This conference convenes all the major players in tobacco control in the region of LAC, including government, civil society and academic institutions; scientists, advocates and treatment specialists and presents an excellent opportunity to discuss policy, treatment and research in tobacco control.
