The Healthy Latin America Coalition (CLAS), an initiative of the InterAmerican Heart Foundation, is pleased to announce the event “For a Healthy Life: Latin American Workshop on NCDs, Panama, December 2019.” This workshop will take place in Panama City, December 2-5, 2019, and is co-sponsored by the NCD Alliance, the International Development Research Center (IDRC) of Canada and the Ministry of Health of Panama.

To advance the prevention and control of NCDs, in accordance with the mission of CLAS, we must can act together to be more effective. The organizations and individuals that make up CLAS have their own topics that occupy their time. However, it is through consensual positions, joint actions and sharing our experiences that we have greater strength to defend the health of our Latin American populations. The Panama meeting is a forum to have the opportunity to understand our common problems and develop better strategies, informed by the rich experience of each one. The workshop will bring together NCD prevention and control activists, experts and researchers from Latin America to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss advances in NCD prevention and control in our region.

The workshop has the following objectives:

  • Consider progress in the region towards the objectives and indicators of WHO to prevent and control NCDs and assess achievements and challenges.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of our region and entities to move forward with greater strength.
  • Update the policy advocacy plan to accelerate progress and prepare the region to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and the ENT goals by 2025.
