Magnitude of Chronic Disease in Latin America and the Caribbean
Country Profiles: Non-Communicable Disease (English) (Español)

The Pan American Health Organization presents this compilation of country profiles to summarize the epidemiological situation in Latin America and the Caribbean. The report highlights the capacity of the Ministries of Health in the region to address the prevention and control of Non-Communicable diseases (NCD). Information on countries' capacity were provided by managers of NCD programs, designated by the Ministries of Health to attend the biennial meeting CARMEN 2012.

Answers were provided by the managers via a survey distributed by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO ) and completed between March and April 2012. Some of the information contained in the profiles has also been derived from PAHO past publications. In each country profile, information is available on sociodemographic indicators, risk factors for NCD and premature mortality from NCDs, policies and action plans, monitoring, health care and medication.
